But you’re definitely a braver man than I am. After reading the horror tales of the great Welsh writer Arthur Machen, encountering a genuine specimen of the Fair Folk while traipsing along a lonely footpath in the British countryside is just about my worst nightmare.
It's a solid "4" for its insight into the hidden realm. The miniseries of the same name (2015) did a good job of smoothing out the bumpy story and fleshing out the characters.
This was great fun to read—I loved it!

How we survived this long without knowing about Machen is a mystery. Thanks for the recommendation!
My pleasure!
Sounds like a fun quest.
Can't Wait to See What Happens Next in Your Quest!..
Read some Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell on the way?
On the edge of my seat to hear more about The Secret Commonwealth...
Just being cheeky, in proper British fashion.
That one's been on the "to-read" pile for a decade. How many owl hoots out of 5 do you give it?

Well it definitely moved up to the top of the pile! Thanks for weighing in.
Lela recommended it to me, actually.
I've yet to watch the screen adaptation...
I'd give it at least 4, for shore.
A bit lengthy, but well done.
Relates directly to the guidelines you mentioned, etcetera.
Highly recommend The Secret Life of Nature by Peter Tompkins as well.
