I find a lot if the book to be BS. A lot of it seems to be based on rumor and conjecture. Mr. McGowan seemed to be obsessed with Manson, and seemingly all these people seem to have a connection to Manson. Like Wilson. They have denied their involvement in supporting Manson's music

Its a good read, but many points are exaggerated.

Example: Frank Zappa/Mix Cabin living room was supposedly 3000 sq feet, iirc, there are no pictures, or facts documenting this. Gram Parsons was involved with Emmylou Harris at the time of his death. This wasn't mentioned.

Thank you for reading and commenting! An all too familiar pattern with many thought-provoking books in this arena is the lack of strong citations. McGowan's speculations aren't too far afield - but to your point - it's wise to remember that they are just that: speculations.

I like the book review but in no way were Morrison or Zappa unwitting Manchurian Musicians. The parents may have gotten their foot in the recording studio but I don't think you can induce musical talent with mind control

This makes sense - although we understand the criticisms against Morrison to be that he had no musical talent, even after joining The Doors. (Which is a subjective opinion, to be sure.)

Oh My Goodness. Just ploughing through 'Weird Scenes' and went looking for its author, David McGowan. That this aggressive cancer took him so quickly is a real eye opener and a bummer because, as stated in this article, so many questions thrown up by Mr. McGowan's research really begged another book. The book he never got the chance to write. Sigh.

Does anyone know how the material produced by the LC government studio was disseminated? For the allegedly largest studio to be hiring all those people to produce films, et al, I cannot believe they simply archived the material.

To learn of Mr. McGowan's untimely death six years after the fact is a stone cold bummer. Is anybody else prepared to take up the gauntlet, to further explore what is necessary?
