As the Director of National Intelligence’s (DNI) public summary about objects in our skies became available on the afternoon of June 25th 2021, and the UFO community finally exhaled their collective breath, a common sentiment among anxious observers seemed to be: “Was that it?”
While it was always intended to be a summary of a larger report, the dearth of details contained in the meager nine pages of the DNI’s “Preliminary Assessment” left many readers feeling like they’d accessed an Amazon “Look Inside” sample instead of the full thing. (The report’s nine pages include a title page, two pages of redundant appendices, and the gratuitous use of large-sized, all CAPS bold headings and subheadings.)
With this in mind, it’s no wonder that the first three words of the ‘UFO Report’ have become a source of renewed anticipation and speculation for spectators of the phenomenon:
“This preliminary report…”
Preliminary, as in something that introduces or precedes; something that comes before — a prelude.
The word is loaded with connotations that provide glimmers of Disclosure-tinted hope.
In fact, stories are circulating about a 73-page report that was delivered to elected officials, apparently containing enough detail to prompt calls for public hearings on the topic. The DNI has already been asked to provide updates on the status of the situation to congress within 90 days.
This time around we won’t be holding our breath.
